Dad Is Still Home

The old fellow is about to get three new housemates. My wife Amy, our dog Edna, and me!

It’s going to be a challenge. I mean, where are we going to put all our stuff?!

We’ll make it work. Somehow.

A Dimland Radio Pedantic Moment: His Mom Called Him!

Cut him some slack, lady! Mom won’t be around forever!

The Jake From State Farm ad campaign has one ad in which a couple (married, I’m guessing) standing outside Jake’s house to ask him some vital question. The wife snarks about her husband having to always call his mother about everything.

Oh, this Pedantic Moment covered a bit more than the mom calling thing, but the husband does talk to his mom.

But his mom called him! And stop shaming your husband for talking to his mom!

A Dimland Radio ARGH!

I didn’t watch the MLB All-Star Game this year. I just watched the highlights the next day.

Here they were talking to two players while they were playing. ARGH!

It used to be that I would really try to catch as much of the game as I could back when I was cleaning buildings every Tuesday night, but Fox Sports decided talking to the players while they play would be a great way to get me to stop watching the big game.

They were right.

A Cool Thing: Elly De La Cruz Steals 2nd, 3rd, AND HOME!

He stole home!

Speaking of baseball, in a recent game between the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates, Reds player Elly De La Cruz stole two bases and home all in less than two minutes!

So awesomely cool!

This Is Also Pretty Cool

The de-aged Alicia Silverstone reprising her star-making role in Clueless for an ad for the shopping app Rakuten (not a sponsor of Dimland Radio) is very impressive. The ad is fun and the de-aging is impressive with only one moment when her actual age (which isn’t that old!) glimpses through.

Just a hint of her actual age (46).

A Dimland Radio Pedantic Moment Revisited

You got toothpaste in my orange juice!” “You got orange juice on my toothpaste!”

Last week, I railed against television and movie depictions of people brushing their teeth BEFORE they eat breakfast, thinking no one would object to my rant.

Not so fast sparkinator!

One of my skeptic friends provided information that showed that science is suggesting brushing your teeth before breakfast is a good idea. This article, linked to me by my friend, provides information pulled from one study (one very, very, very small) demonstrating that brushing stimulates saliva production. Saliva helps protect tooth enamel from harmful bacteria.

The article does recommend that, if you don’t want to ruin the taste of your morning OJ, you should then wait at least 30 minutes after eating to brush.

I’ll do that.
