Christmas Show
I speculated on the Northern Hemisphere bias when it comes to Christmas, more accurately the northern Northern Hemisphere bias, the part of the world that experiences typical winter weather (snow, ice, and cold temperatures). It seems to me that all the imagery of Christmas is permeated with all the cold stuff.
But, Christmas happens at the beginning of summer in the Southern Hemisphere. Are the images on their Christmas cards all about the cold weather? I’ll try to find out.
I also noted that, to my eye, Christmas decorations look better surrounded by snow.

But, Cricket. What of cricket?

I talked a little bit about cricket on last week’s show. Or rather I talked about how little I knew about it.
Well, my friend Craig stepped up and sent me a YouTube video that attempts to explain the game to baseball fans.
Hey! I’m a baseball fan!
And I must admit, the game looks interesting…
A Dimland Radio Pedantic Moment: An Old One, A Failed One, And A Weird One

The old Pedantic Moment dealt with something I noticed as a child, earning my pedantry badge for the Well Actually Club. It involved the fact that that goods laden sled should have plummeted off the mountain long before the Grinch’s heart enlarged.

Then there was this fail. The fail was on my part. (I should lose that pedantry badge.)

Sure, I got it right when correcting the spelling of due. (Do? Gaaaaah!) But, the L was correct. I was thinking the word should be pumping, because a pump must be involved in an automatic car wash, right? No, another pedant pointed out the word was more likely supposed to be plumbing. (Gaaaaah!)
The weird one involves my iPhone’s texting feature. You know how it provides predictive text options. It’s checking on what you are writing and tries to guess what word or phrase you might type out next, to help speed up your messaging.
My wife and I were playing with out texting feature to see if all the holidays or big life events had a fun bit of animation. (“Happy New Year” does. As do “Happy Birthday” and “Congratulations”. Try them!) I tried out Fourth of July. Look at what my iPhone predicted…
Sure Hope Stranger Things 4 Gets Better
My friends on Facebook assure me that the popular Netflix series does indeed get better. Amy and I are two episodes in and the quirky factor feels a little overdone. And there are other moments and characters that just haven’t landed well with me.

Most of the new characters are just plain annoying, especially Eddie, the Dungeons & Dragons game-master drug dealer, who thinks he’s such a cool rebel. Gah. I really hope he gets less annoying.
And some of the regular characters are a little too quirky.
We’ll give it time.
