Greta Thunberg Wins The Internet

I had never heard of Andrew Tate until he foolishly attempted to take on environmental activist Greta Thunberg in a battle of wits on Twitter. Tate is some former MMA fighter, women-hating troll who was recently reinstated to Twitter by billionaire buffoon Elon Musk. One of Tate’s first actions after reinstatement was to brag at Thunberg about how many cars he owns. She responded in the best way to such overcompensating machismo:

If you don’t know how to read Twitter, Thunberg’s response comes before Tate’s attempted trolling.

But, it didn’t end there.

Tate couldn’t just slink off and lick his publicly received wounds. Nope, he posted a video of himself with pizza delivery and said he wouldn’t be recycling the boxes. After posting the video, Romanian police arrested Tate and his brother on sex trafficking charges. (Romanian law enforcement has denied the pizza boxes in the video helped them locate the dipshit, as had been claimed on the internets and which I stated on the show).

Still, Greta got the last word in the exchange:

Attagirl!

And Now – Sportsball!

Phase one of Gut Punch 2022/23 complete.

I tried to keep it brief, because some of my listeners ain’t that into sports, but I had to mention a possible devastating way in which the MN Vikings will end up punching their fans in the gut this year.

You have to understand, the Vikings have been punching their fans in the gut since their first Super Bowl appearance in 1970. And that is actually the only season the Vikes have won it all. You see, the Super Bowl wasn’t the championship game yet (that would happen in 1971). There were two leagues then and the Vikes won theirs in 1970.

But, no one cares. They lost the Super Bowl that year (and three more times after that), so the perception is they have never won it all.

Each time since 1977, the last time the Vikes were in the Super Bowl, whenever the team seems set to get back to the big game, they find a way to punch their fans in the gut. There have been way too many gut punches for me to get into here.

This year will be not different.

The MN Vikings will punch their fans in the gut again and on the show I go over the predicted by a co-worker scenario for this year’s let down.

As of this writing, phase one of Gut Punch 2022/23 has be completed. The Green Bay Packers beat the Vikes (embarrassingly at that) on New Years Day.

Oh! I forgot to link to a couple videos relating to the Vikings’ unbelievable comeback victor over the lousy Indianapolis Colts. First is the Vikings Vet Line that started at halftime, when the Vikes were down 33-0 and stays with the game showing the hosts and the fans witnessing the comeback. Second is YouTuber Tom Grossi’s fan reaction to the comeback game.

Don’t Get History From Hollywood

Cool looking, sure, but just how accurate?

I’m sure most people know this already, but you shouldn’t rely on Hollywood for accurate historical information. Still, I thought it would be fun to check on the “history” depicted in The Untouchables (1987) and the Netflix series Peaky Blinders.

One scene in The Untouchables shows the judge in Al Capone’s tax evasion case instructing the bailiff to switch juries with another case being tried at the same time. It had come to Eliot Ness’s attention that the Capone jury had been bribed and he (ahem) convinced the judge to take action, leading to the defeat of Chicago’s most notorious crime boss. Yay, Untouchables!

My pedantry takes hold whenever I watch that scene. Surely, it would be a mistrial. However, the jury switch did happen, just not how it was depicted in the film.

Also, cool, but historically accurate? Not hardly!

And the Peaky Blinders? Oh, boy! I say more on the show, but here I’ll just say there was a gang of street toughs in Birmingham, England in the years after the First World War who called themselves Peaky Blinders. And that’s about all that the series got historically accurate.
