dimland radio 3-18-23 show notes

Anniversary

I didn’t remember the exact date when I recorded this show, but I was able to look it up. It was March 13, 2010 when the first episode of Dimland Radio appeared on Z Talk Radio.

566 shows later and I’m still here. And the show is still the best kept secret on the internet. And Trisha is still my number 1 listener! Both in being there for the first show and in fan racking.

13 years! Do I have another 13 in me?

We’ll see.

Cool Thing #1: A Change In Policing?

Logo for city of Roseville, MN.

I received a letter in the snail mail informing me that there was a brake light out on our Kia Soul. It wasn’t a citation. There was no penalty and no further action would be taken. It was a convenient way to let me know, because something so minor wasn’t worth a traffic stop by the cop who spotted it.

In addition to the the notification about the brake light, the letter let me know that I could pick up a voucher to get the light repaired for free at a participating auto service. There’s a program called Lights On that helps car owners with headlights, tail lights, brake lights, etc. that have burned out get them repaired for free.

This appears to be a change in policing in the wake of Philando Castile (and other similar incidents) being shot to death by a cop in a routine traffic stop. It makes sense. Why risk the lives of drivers and cops over something so minor?

Pretty cool.

Oh! And I replaced the bulb myself.

A Skeptic Poops The Party Again

Believe or don’t, the sketch actually helps identify what might have been spotted.

Jimmy Kimmel loves this St. Patrick’s Day story. In 2006, in the town of Crichton, Alabama, some residents claimed to have spotted a leprechaun in the nighttime treetops.

Sigh. Leprechaun? Really?

I think, although I could be wrong, I might have a good idea what was in those treetops and it wasn’t a leprechaun.

Hint! Hint!

Crazy Aunt Margie Is Crazy

Rep. Crazy Aunt Margie (R-GA)… God damn it! None of us should even know who this woman is!

Before the crazy lady was elected (How? Seriously, how was she elected?), Crazy Aunt Margie visited the US Capitol to let everyone know it’s illegal to be sworn into any American office on anything other than the Bible.

It’s not.

Not only is she crazy, she’s stupid.

Cool Thing #2: A Familiar Place Spotted On The TV

A co-worker thought the view outside the windows looked awfully familiar.

The TV sports comedy The League had an episode featuring former MN Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. The show was set in Chicago, the set was in Minneapolis. Not only that it was in the building next door to where I currently work!

To the right of The Eatery is Cold Side Silkscreening. That’s where I work!

In the exterior establishing shot, you can see Cold Side Silkscreening, the place at which I work! (I said it was brown trim. I meant brown brick with blue trim.)

There’s also a few retouches to the scene to change part of the name of the restaurant, to remove the restaurant name from the awning, and to replace the Twins logo on the sign post in the first photo with the Cubs logo.

This is very cool!

A Minnesota Sports Legend Has Died

The best head coach in MN Vikings history.
