A Start Over And I’m Ready To Get My Car Back

I managed to goof up the beginning of the show, which I hadn’t noticed until the Saturday night playing of the show on Z talk Radio. Whoops!
I decided to re-record the opening. And got back into the original recording with…
Ain’t winter fun?
That’s what I said when I finally got a response from the online comic book store, from which I sometimes get my books, after four days of trying to find out why my recent order wasn’t showing up on the UPS tracker.
The store is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas. They were hit with a winter storm that effectively show down their business from Monday afternoon until Friday morning.
The order was pulled, the shipment was readied, but it didn’t get picked up due to the storm.
My order is on its way now and I should get it soon. Perhaps tomorrow.
Does The Customer Have To Be Thought Of As Being Always Right?

An old white guy came into the store bringing with him a bunch of dumb. He fancied himself an expert on masks, because he had watched a doctor on the internet who claimed masks were only about 2% effective. This doctor blew smoke through a mask, so that means they don’t work. “The germs and viruses are too small to be held back by the mask,” he said.
“True, but those germs and viruses are contained in the droplets we breathe out and those droplets get hung up in the masks,” I replied.
I don’t know everything about masks and I’m curious about the source of that 2% effective claim. I have sent a question about what we know about masks to the folks at the Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe podcast. I’m also curious about something I saw looking into how effective masks are when used by the medical staff in the operating room. I trust the SGU.
We’ll see if I get an answer.
Old Stereotype Caricatures Of Minorities In Old Comic Books
The old fart white guy customer also lamented that people today are so upset by the goofy-looking black people in old comic books. “They drew goofy-looking white people, too!”
Who drew the goofy-looking black people and goofy-looking white people?
White people!
I talked about a couple specific characters, Lil’ Eight Ball and Ebony White. The latter was the creation of the otherwise brilliant illustrator Will Eisner. Later in life, Eisner would look back at his Ebony White character and cringe.
I also talked about why I think those stereotyped caricatures are horrible. If readers are white folks who have little or no exposure to minorities, the stereotypes become the way “those people” are.
It’s dangerously one-sided.
I’m not going to post any of the images here, but go to this link and you’ll see what I mean.
It’s Not True: Gov. Ron DeSantis Did Not Say That
He may be a neo-facist and Fearless Loser wannabe, but he didn’t say something as asinine as Kurt Cobain and David Bowie were never seen wearing dresses. But does that stop the internets from sharing this lie? Nope.

The quote is lifted word for word from a satirical blog lampooning the Florida governor’s attitude toward the LGBTQ+ community. The blogger took the opportunity to stick it to DeSantis and to the dunderheads who thought the rainbow in Pink Floyd’s announcement of Dark Side Of The Moon’s 50th anniversary meant the band was all woke now. (As if being woke is some sort of insult. Remember, the opposite of woke is asshole.)
I found the blog and started reading it and by the second paragraph I knew the whole thing was satire.
DeSantis is a horrible asshole, who wants to scare his voters about the Dems coming for their gas stoves and forcing they kids to all be trans and teaching them to hate America by not literally whitewashing history. But his saying Kurt Cobain and David Bowie never wore dresses…
