The Yoleus

A tale I didn’t get to on last week’s anniversary show was about the opening theme music of Dimland Radio. It’s called Ram and it’s by Minneapolis alt rock band The Yoleus. My friend Dave was the guitarist for the band and he gave me permission to use one of their tunes.
Originally, the opening song was Ahead by the UK punk/post punk/art punk band formed in the late 1970s Wire. I got to thinking about a year into doing the show that there might be licensing problems using that song. Luckily, I knew Dave and he hooked me up.
Unfortunately, the link to the song I have used for the last ten years is gone. Here is a short clip of The Yoleus playing live. It’s not the same tune, but it will give you a flavor of what the band was like.
And there’s the outro music of the show. Again, it features Dave on lead acoustic guitar. It also has my friend Richard on mandolin and me on a twelve-string acoustic guitar. The song is called Angler’s Treble Hook. It’s our version of the traditional blue grass song Fisher’s Hornpipe. Our version is slowed down to be more ballad-like (and easier for me to play).
Z Talk Radio’s Server
Last week, I mentioned part of the reason I don’t do live show anymore is because of occasional server problems. I figured prerecording the shows would eliminate those issues. Weeeeeell, ironically, when I attempted to play last week’s show in its usual time slot, the server wouldn’t let me.
So, last week’s show was download only.
The server problems appeared to be ironed out. I could do all those things I couldn’t do last week. BUT! The server still wouldn’t let me play last night’s show, so it too is a download only show.
What will next week bring?
The Car Wasn’t Quite Fixed
Problems with our car persisted and it ended up back at the dealership getting more repairs. The $90 it cost in the first round of repairs was just too good to be true, I guess.
It’s running now.
What will next week bring?
The Cat Is Sick

Our kitty overheard that the Covid relief money we received was a third more than expected. “Oh, really?” she said, “Well, you can just break off that third for me.”
A very expensive vet hospital visit later and we learned she has inflammatory bowel disease. We have meds to give her, but they are pills. Ever try getting a pill into a cat? All pet meds should be in liquid form.
I explained the difference between pet people and not pet people. I am a not pet people. My wife is a pet people. Sigh.
Don’t get me wrong. I love our kitty. I just know this isn’t going to end well. Or cheaply.
She may improve.
What will next week bring?
My Friend And Masks. Again.
Look, I don’t have the energy or time to write it all up here.
I’ll summarize it this way:
The argument in this meme is stupid.

Masks work. (It should be pointed out the mask wearer in the meme needs to cover his nose. Little known fact: The nose is connected to the lungs.)
Dr. Fauci, an immunologist, knows what he’s talking about.

Sen. Rand Paul, an eye doctor, is a grandstanding mask politicizer, who had Covid. Which is something the senator has in common with his favorite president (Fearless Loser) and my friend, who both also had Covid.
I agree with Pres. Biden and Dr. Fauci on how to handle the pandemic. And they haven’t had Covid.
Neither have I.
Interesting how the mask politicizers have had the Covid, isn’t it?
The Boss’s Wife And The Gish Gallop

Ugh. I spoke to my boss’s wife the other day and she rolled out her well-rehearsed Gish Gallop on me on the pandemic, the economic slowdown, lock downs, Dr. Fauci, Bill Gates, who is really gonna pay for the Covid relief, why can Walmart stay open while the restaurant next door has to close, the vaccine is a therapeutic not a vaccine, masks will be mandated forever, it’s all about control, the Covid death numbers can’t be trusted, hospitals get paid more for Covid cases, if you don’t think illegal immigration is a problem why do you lock your doors, The Who‘s song Baba O’Riley is the greatest rock song ever…
Ok. She didn’t make that last claim. I just threw it in there to see if you were paying attention. If she had, she would have been right, of course.
And the Gish Gallop being what it is, I couldn’t even begin to refute or explain every claim, so she thinks she’s won the day.

She did make one claim that I was later easily able to refute. She said that Bill Gates and Dr. Fauci went to school together, as though that’s some kind of evil thing. A less than two minute search of Wikipedia put that to rest. Assuming she meant college, Gates went to Harvard University (he dropped out after two years) and Dr. Fauci went to the College of the Holy Cross (for his BA) and Cornell University (for his MD). And Fauci is 15 years old than Gates.
But then Wikipedia could also be in on the conspiracy.
The Who And Humorous Tales Of My Ringtones
I use three Who songs for my ringtones: Baba O’Riley for general calls, My Wife for my wife, and 905 for my son.
The ringtones have led to some confusion and nearly had me looking like a crazy old man.
Be patient. Wash your hands. Stay home. Stay safe. WEAR A MASK!
