The Tooth Is Still Out! There!

Just a brief update on the status of my mouth. Still a little tender and there’s a tiny “pocket” in the gum where the tooth was. It will disappear in time, but until then little bits of food keep getting caught in there. Rinsing helps clean it out.

A Brush With A Hacker, Or I’m A Dumbass

This should have been my response much sooner than it was.

My friend Douglas had his Facebook account hacked and through that hacked account the hacker tried to hack mine.

It took way too long for me to reach the conclusion that I was dealer with a hacker. Even though my initial reaction was to ask a question the hacker wouldn’t know, I went along with the requests they were making.

Fortunately, my lack of tech prowess, I managed to keep the hacker from hacking me. That gave me time to finally ask the question. Of course, the hacker didn’t know the answer.

Douglas got his Facebook account reinstated and he was able to see the exchange I had with the asshole who impersonated my friend.

I should have known better.

Be careful out there!

Fearless Loser Indicted Again

I would have thought the toilet would be gold, but at least there’s a chandelier. And a shitload of documents the Orange One wasn’t supposed to have.

MAGAs (including a good friend of mine) just keep refusing to see anything wrong with Fearless Loser.

Sigh.

The Republican Party used to have serious people in their ranks back when the Watergate Scandal griped the world. Republicans from the House and the Senate went to Pres. Nixon and told him they would impeach and convict him. They urged him to resign for the good of the country and the party.

Nixon resigned.

Today, the GOP is run by MAGA and MAGA are not serious people. They want a king. They are in a cult. And our country suffers.

And for those MAGAs saying, “What about Biden?!”

The BBC compared Biden, Asshole, and Mike Pence’s handling of documents they shouldn’t have had. Biden and Pence appear to have cooperated completely and quickly returned everything. The Orange Traitor? He’s been indicted.

Lock him up! Lock him up! Lock him up!

The Fugitive Is A Great Movie

It’s really, really good! It’s The Fugitive (1993) starring Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones.

I had my doubts about another film based on a TV show, but the reviews were very positive and it deserved the high praise.

Looking sharp, Tommy Lee!

I had a few observations to make. One being that surely there would have been some physical evidence indicating there was a third person in the house. Wearing gloves would have kept fingerprints from being left behind, but there was a fight between Harrison Ford’s character, who gets falsely accused and convicted for murdering his wife, and the actual murderer. No hairs? No clothing fibers? No blood?

Nice police work there, Chicago PD.

That’s just minor. The film is great!

This was not the most implausible moment in the movie.

The Tooth Is Out! There!

Ready for the yanking of the awful tooth.

Well, it’s out. That bad, bad, naughty tooth that broke a few years ago, but didn’t hurt until a couple weeks after the entire filling finally broke out in March of this year, is out of my mouth.

There was a small challenge with my blood pressure prior to the procedure, but that was dealt with and now I’m down to 26 teeth in my mouth. (I had a tooth removed about 20 years ago.)

Hopefully, once the jaw is healed, the residual pain that I still have to control with Tylenol and ibuprofen will go away.

Hope springs eternal.

A Dimland Pedantic Moment: Nostalgia Zone’s Member Benefits

My listener knows that I record my show fro the basement of Nostalgia Zone, a comic book store in Minneapolis. I do an ad for the store each week, in which I let people know about the store and our free member ship program.

Being a member gets you 10% off comic books, magazines, and other goodies. You also earn points (10% of what you spend) that can be used to save even more on future purchases. The only drawback, if it can be called that, is you’ll get one or two emails a month. AND! Select comic books and magazines that have been on the shelves a while begin to get more discounts on our huge selection of back issues from the Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, and Modern Age.

Do you collect comic books? Well, head to nostalgiazone.com to sign up and find those treasures you’ve been looking for.

Hang on! I crammed an ad for Nostalgia Zone into this Pedantic Moment?

Well, yeah, but this is because a friend went all pedantic on my when, on a show from a couple weeks ago, I made it some as though the additional discounts members get on certain books can add up to 90%.

OH! That’s not right! I goofed up.

Hopefully, I clear up the apparent error in math.

Hope springs eternal.

Quackery For The Dogs

Despite the rad shades, this looks really dumb.

A dog-owner living a block or so away from me felt it necessary to let me know, as I walked by with my dog, her pooch was just getting back from her first chiropractor visit.

Sigh.

I didn’t tell my neighbor of my doubts about chiropractic. It dubious enough for humans, but for dogs? I call bullshit. Chiropractors might honestly believe they are helping and might be able to alleviate some lower back pain and discomfort, what they are really good at is emptying your bank account.

But why should humans be the only victims when animals also have spines to be cracked?

Humans can fall victim to the placebo effect and so can animals, sort of. It’s more likely it’s the owner and/or the vet the placebo is effecting.

In A Valley Of Violence Tells A Lot, But Doesn’t Show Much

It’s a recent Western. I generally like Westerns, but this one…

It makes the mistake of telling and not showing, or barely showing. We’re told the Town Marshal (John Travolta) runs the town of Denton as a kind of tyrant, but we don’t see much to show that. We’re told Denton is in the Valley of Violence, but, though there is violence in the film, we aren’t shown how the valley came by that name.

And I think there’s supposed to be funny moments in the movie, but none of the humor lands. At all.

According to Wikipedia, the movie did recent positive reviews, but I can’t see why. There is a good movie in here and there are a couple of good moments, but I think it missed the mark.

My Tooth Is Still In My Head

Yep. That bad tooth is still there, but it’s days are numbered. As of this writing, the tooth is getting pulled tomorrow at noon. I’m done with the antibiotics and I don’t have as much pain. But, it will be a relief to get it out of there.

My Wife Is Now Bionic

SKA is the initials of the x-ray tech who made the image. And a fun genre of music.

The picture is pretty cool!

There’s a plate and several pins in there. Best of all it is healing nicely.

Amy still has some pain and she has plenty of physical therapy to do, but she’s able to work. And before we know it, the broken shoulder will be an interesting anecdote.

What Does GOOCH Mean?!

You know what the “taint” is, right?

It’s the slang term for that bit of the human body between the anus and the genitals. I learned recently that there is also the slang term “gooch” which means the same thing.

We may need to rename the G.O.O.C.H. Squad of the Assault of the 2 Headed Space Mules podcast.

And, now, watch this from Mr. Show.

A Couple Creepy Songs Or Keeping It In The Family

The songs were hits when they were released. The first was a Top 20 hit, the second was a Number 1 hit! Both are love song, just listen to the lyrics.

What a cute couple… Hang on!

Donny and Marie (brother and sister!) saw Deep Purple go to #14.

Daddy! What do I look like? Ivanka Trump?!”

Father and daughter, Frank and Nancy Sinatra, had this love song Somethin’ Stupid make it all the way to #1!

So creepy. Still I like both songs.

What’s wrong with me?!

Sigh…

Favorite Pete Townshend Solo

Hey! He got old!

I was asked by a friend what was my favorite solo by rock legend Pete Townshend. I asked for a clarification. Guitar? Song? Album?

My friend meant guitar solo. That’s difficult, because Townshend never was the kind of guitarist known for his solos. He’s a great rhythm guitar player, but not great at lead. I really like his acoustic guitar playing, in which he does do some interesting soloing.

Some examples:

The outro for Sister Disco from The Who album Who Are You.

From Tommy, as the opening track Overture winds down, Pete comes on with his acoustic guitar and sings about Tommy’s father, Captain Walker, apparently being killed in combat. Nice acoustic guitar soloing.

I think my favorite of his acoustic playing is from his solo live performances of Drowned from Quadrophenia. Here’s one from when he was younger. This one is from when he was probably about my age. So, you know, he was old.

On the show, I give a few of my favorites of his solo songs. And I also state my favorite of his solo albums.

You’ll have to listen.

My Turn!

First, my dad took ill, then my wife fell and broke her shoulder, and, as an extra bit of fun that happened when Amy fell, our dog got her eye scratched. What else could happen?

I’ll tell you.

That is the big chunk of filling that broke out of my tooth a couple month’s ago.

I developed a horrible toothache.

I neglected the broken teeth in my mouth long enough for at least one of them to decide to cause me a tremendous amount of pain. When I talked about on the show, the worst hadn’t even happened yet.

Tune in next week to get the rest of the story.

A Little Sportsball

I’ll keep it even more briefer here than I did on the show.

A (Few) Dimland Radio Pedantic Moment(s): Movie Related Messups

I started with the excellent podcast looking at Hollywood’s history. It’s called You Must Remember This hosted by Karina Longworth.

Katrina inflated the number of thumbs Siskel & Ebert use in their movie rating system.

A new film review podcast co-hosted by my friend Tim has begun dropping. It’s called Film Geek Time Machine.

Tim didn’t let Austin, his friend and host of the show, get away with saying “hung” instead of the proper “hanged” as the past tense of a person dying (or nearly dying) by hanging. But, he totally blew when young Austin butchered the name of John Wayne’s character in the 1973 Western Cahill US Marshal.

Kuh-hill?! Seriously?

Sigh…

Multi-talented George Hrab!

And was Geo fucking with us on the Geologic Podcast when giving us examples of The Mandela Effect by getting a couple very simple facts about two film classics wrong?

Darth Vader said, “No, I am your father,” before he cut of Luke’s hand in Empire Strikes Back?

BEFORE??!!

Uh. No!

Geo is correct that Humphrey Bogart did not say, “Play it again, Sam,” in the great film Casablanca. But he couldn’t have been more wrong in what he said Bogie really said (Geo even did an impression of the old movie tough guy) in the film.

Did Rick (Bogie’s character) say, “Play it once, Sam. For old time’s sake. Play ‘As Time Goes by'”?

Uh. No! Not even close!

This Meme Gets It

This is the best quality image I could find. Sorry.

Thank God It’s Friday?! Pfffft!

My dad is improving, but it’s baby steps right now. He got past the COVID and he became more himself. He can have a conversation. He asks questions. He jokes. And he turned 88.

But he still has a ways to go.

Yeah, I’m not really a doctor, so it’s difficult to see all the breaks, but it is broken.

You’d think we could start getting back to a more normal day to day, but on Friday (April 28) we were reminded things can change pretty fast.

My wife, Amy, had a fall and broke her shoulder. I tell the whole harrowing tale (I still get the willies thinking about it) on the show.

AND!

Later that same day, and probably as a result of the same fall, because Amy was carrying our dog when she fell, our little Edna got a scratch on her eye.

TGIF my ass!

A White Nationalist, Racist, Dog-Whistling Asshole Got Fired

I’ll just say, in the most human-like laugh I can muster, hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha… (catches breath) hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

A Dimland Radio Pedantic Moment: Towed To Autozone?

It’s winter. A lone car in an otherwise empty parking. A young woman just can’t get the car started. She’s understandably frustrated. Next scene the frustrated woman is just outside an Autozone finding out it’s probably just a loose cable. (I think the click click click sound indicates a dead battery, but I’m not a car guy.)

How did she get the car to Autozone? Tow? Who tows their car to an auto parts store?!

I Saw The New Pornographers!

Is this an indie rock band or staff members at the local high school?

Amy couldn’t attend (broken shoulder, remember?), but she insisted that I go without her. I did go to see the New Pornographers, a band that I really like.

They were great and the opening band (Wild Pink) was pretty good. The venue was very nice. I got to sit! And the audience was good.

Well, there were the two yahoos who came in late and sat… you guessed it!… right next to me. In fact, yahoo #1 sat in my wife’s seat.

Sigh…

The show was good. I wish Amy could have gone.
