Rain, Rain, And More Rain. And No AC

First I gave an update on the newspaper delivery situation. It’s still showing up, but so far this month only a couple times. Progress is being made, I guess.
I used the most recent delivery of the Sunday paper and my fruitless attempt to catch the attention of the deliverer, I was feet away when he dropped it on our walkway, to tell a couple stories of not heeding a closed to thru traffic sign.
The photo above shows the addition my next door neighbors made to the official sign in an attempt to let drivers know to take it seriously. It really is closed at the other end.
My neighbor has said that she has seen a reduction of vehicles having to make the turn around to get off the block.
A Cool Use Of AI

The Beatles released a new song last October. It’s called Now And Then and it was taken from a demo recording by John Lennon. It’s also being call the last Beatles song.
I may not have gotten all the details correct. I was going by memory of what I heard about the recording on one of the podcasts I listen to. But, the surviving Beatles with the help of Jeff Lynne (in 1995), Giles Martin, and film director Peter Jackson using AI, were able to separate and clean up John’s vocals. His vocals were impossible to separate from the sound of his piano in 1995, when the three surviving attempted to record a third new Beatles song, but AI made it possible.
Here’s the song. Here’s a short film about the making of Now And Then.

I mentioned the above photo. And I’m including it to remind you to stay on your toes and not be taken in by AI fakery. Although, this one would be difficult to mistake for a real photograph.
A Dimland Radio Pedantic Moment: Star Trek’s Universal Translator

It’s a good long Pedantic Moment segment explaining that I don’t understand Star Trek’s universal translator. I accept it. I just don’t understand it.
Shelley Duvall Died And The Shining Is Still A Great Movie

Shelley Duvall was born to play Olive Oyl, which she did brilliantly in Robert Altman much underrated Popeye (1980). She may not be quite as good in the Stanley Kubrick horror masterpiece The Shining (also from 1980), but she does play terror very well.
I used this sad news to talk about how great I think The Shining is. Stephen King may not have thought it was a great adaption of his novel (he may be right, I’ve never read it), but it certainly is a fantastic film.

I love the Gold Room sequences and Lloyd the bartender, played be Joe Turkel, is so good. He has a wonderful mix of friendly yet proper politeness with an undercurrent of menace or evil.
Love it!
