Alex Jones Called Out For Perjury

I was mistaken in my suggesting that liar Alex Jones stopped lying once under oath. Well, the judge saw things differently.

Defund The FBI?

The fact that I’m a middle-aged white guy limits my ability to have a full understanding of what life is like for minorities living in America. But, within those limitations, I do understand that the simmering anger in our society sometimes boils over. In the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd by the police (and so many others before him), the simmering anger boiled over.

While I don’t condone the destruction and looting of businesses and the burning of a police precinct, I can understand (in a limited way) why it happened. Minority communities, especially black communities, want to be heard. They want justice. They want a fair shake. And there doesn’t seem to be much progress.

And the grift, as always, is on!

In the last couple years, we have heard the call to Defund the Police. The call is to rethink policing. It is to take some of the funding the police receive and reallocate them to agencies and professions that can take over the marriage counseling, drug abuse intervention, dealing with folks with mental illness. The police have had to do all that.

Not surprisingly, Defund the Police isn’t popular with conservatives, Republicans, and, yes, Democrats. Pres. Joe Biden is not in favor of it. Neither is Q-Anon mom, Christian Nationalist (isn’t that a Nazi?), Trump-cultist, and the definitely not too bright Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene a not big fan.

Oh, wait! She is now. She’s all in on defunding the FBI. Why? Because they dared execute a search warrant on Fearless Loser’s mansion in Mar-a-Lago.

A Dimland Radio Pedantic Moment: Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town

That’s Kenny – cross-armed and throwing attitude.

It was a hit for Kenny Rogers & The First Edition in 1969. It had been recorded by Waylon Jennings (1966) and Johnny Darrell (1967), but the Rogers’ version is probably the best known. The song tells the story of a young man, paralyzed in Viet Nam, rendered unable to meet the “wants and the needs” of his young wife, who can’t stop from going to town in search of some lovin’.

It’s a sad song about how war creates many victims. And this young man is quite frustrated at his inability to give his wife the lovin’ she needs. His frustration has him saying:

“And if I could move, I’d get my gun and put her in the ground…”

Can you guess why I might be pedantic about this song?

Electric Vehicles Are Coming, Like It Or Not

That is the plan, but it will take some time.

For the life of me, I cannot understand all the fear of the electric vehicle. Do these folks work for the oil companies?

The horse and buggy industry must have sounded much the same when the gas-powered cars were taking over.

They are coming. Fossil fuels are going to become a thing of the past. This will happen.

That fact doesn’t stopped the EV-fearful from continuing to make the same old and updated arguments. Brian Dunning of Skeptoid.com just did a podcast on those old arguments. Check it out here.

A Movie Recommendation (Sort Of): The Way West (1967)

It’s an ok movie. But it’s interesting in its addressing, at least tangentially, marital rape. A young husband wants some action from his even younger wife, but she’s just not ready. He almost rapes her, but he stops himself and goes off to have sex have the quite flirtatious Mercy (played by Sally Field). She was ready. Very ready.

The trailer gives you a taste of the typical racist treatment of Native Americans in films of that era. Plenty of Italian and Greek actors playing them still.

And I think they may have actually killed a cow!

Still it was ok.
