Bruce Foxton from The Jam and From The Jam

I only briefly talked about going on the 80s Cruise on last week’s show. On this show I go into more of the reasons Amy and I are going. To meet internet friends face to face is a big reason. To see the musical acts is, of course, another big reason. Squeeze, Adam Ant, Sheila E, Men At Work are all acts I’m interested in seeing.

However, the one act I’m most excited about is seeing From The Jam. It’s a tribute band, of sorts, of one of my favorite bands – The Jam.

I say tribute band of sorts, because, see that fellow jumping with his bass guitar? That’s Bruce Foxton. He was the bass player for… The Jam! I’ve seen Paul Weller, the leader of The Jam, perform solo at First Avenue. Now, I’ll get to see Bruce Foxton. That’ll be two thirds of the legendary Mod band and that’s as close as I’ll get to see The Jam.

Veteran 80s Cruisers have been giving loads of advice. The biggest piece is for Amy and me to do Amy and me. We don’t need to join in on all the costuming and 80s gear. Do as much as we want, but know we won’t be able to do everything.

A good piece of advice was to bring Dramamine®. We don’t want seasickness to ruin the trip.

Then someone suggested wearing Sea-Bands® to deal with seasickness…

“Great! Now I’m nauseous AND my wrist hurts!”

They don’t know me too well, do they?

Sea-Bands are an acupressure device that presses on a spot on your wrists and that supposed to suppress a nausea. Really? Pressing a spot on my wrist? How could this possibly work?

Well, acupressure is based on the not ancient at all bullshit “medicine” of acupuncture. Which just means Sea-Bands® are most likely providing a placebo effect and that ain’t gonna work on me.

There seems to be some contradictory science on the effectiveness of acupressure, but I seriously have my doubts.

Ghosts Playing With Balloons?

Ghost hunters are really mostly just anomaly hunters. None of them have ever found a ghost. And they likely never will.

They appear to think balloons filled with helium floating along the ceiling of some villa, working their way over to a stairwell, is evidence for ghostly activity.

My comment in the photo below will clue you into how I view this “evidence”.

Complete strangers rescue a man from a burning vehicle.

It made the national news when video surfaced of a rescue of a man trapped in a burning SUV on I-94 a week or so ago. It happened in St. Paul, MN along a stretch of 94 I am very familiar with. Amy and I drive by that spot when we head to work.

The rescuers were total strangers to the trapped man. They saw the need for immediate help and they responded. The man was saved and suffered only minor injuries.

Such a cool thing gives me some hope for humanity.

Great illustration by Minnesotan John Berkey.

It’s a great illustration by illustrator John Berkey. Berkey’s did loads of spacecraft illustration work. His style is unmistakable.

But what is up with Kong’s mouth? Gorillas don’t have mouths like that.

They’re like this…

Somebody’s been brushing!

Actually, Kong’s face is bit anthropomorphized in general.

Still, it’s an excellent illustration.

A sreencapture from my phone.

Old Neil stuck to his guns for a couple years, but he’s back on Spotify.

No, Joe Rogan didn’t start making sure all claims and assertions made on his still wildly popular show. It’s that Rogan is no longer exclusive to Spotify and Neil figures he can quit every music streaming service, so he’s back on Spotify.
