So, How Was That First Week On Your Own?

“I’m fine. Why do you ask?”

Oh, boy, such a week!

After a mere week f a crash course to get me up to speed, – HA! – I was left to get on on my own.

Those first three days were just a bit on the overwhelming side. (Just A LOT a bit, actually.) So many jobs were already making their way through the pipe and I just had to dig in and get them done. Most of the jobs I was familiar with, but there were some I hadn’t even seen.

I was exactly all on my own. The office manager, who with be off for six weeks (five now!), was able to help me through texting. We even talked once on the phone. That was tremendously helpful. And one of the bosses did come in almost each day for a few hours to help keep me from getting too behind.

Things did begin to settle down on Friday. I had a little more time and quiet to concentrate on getting jobs done.

I’m hoping this next week will settle down a bit.

A Big Decision

“Hey, can I count you guys’s steps in my total?”

I had been obsessing on getting 10,000 steps a day, since I found out there was a step-counting app on my phone. I had been getting those 10,000 every day for the last year and a half. It could occasionally interfere with getting other things done.

I had doubts that 10,000 steps was some kind of set standard, but the app had a hold on me. “I must get 10,000! I gotta walk! STAT!”

Well, 10,000 steps isn’t a magical number and medical science has looked into it. More walking in your daily exercise can be a good thing, but don’t obsess with getting 10,000.

Learning what the science says about it, I decided to lower the daily goal by half. I do 5,000 a day now and that should be fine.

A Dimland Radio ARGH!

Gah!

I don’t like those celebrity judged talent shows that have long taken over network television. In fact, I HATE them!

The worst among them is The Masked Singer. The show on which each celebrity judged attempts to be more shocked than any of the other celebs and the audience.

And that’s just from what I’ve seen in commercials.

I had a few complaints involving a notorious anti-vaxxer, Penn & Teller, and The Who.

Cool Thing: Sina and Keith Moon

Sina and Keith Moon

Keith Moon was undoubtedly the greatest – Keith Moon-type (his joke) – in rock’n’roll. Nobody can drum like him.

Nobody? Hmmmm….

Baseball Is Back!

My listener ought to know how much I love baseball, the greatest games ever created! (Ok, Trivial Pursuit or Sorry or cribbage might be in the running.) And after a little delay, due to the owners locking the players out of the game in order to get concessions from the players’ union, the 2022 season is under way!

There have been a few changes to the game since last season. Some technological changes, some rules changes, most notable was the change that brought the designated hitter to the National League.

I’m not sure bringing the DH to the NL is a great idea, but it’s certainly better than…

Another Dimland Radio ARGH!

I don’t want to see these two numb-nuts almost as much as I don’t want to watch Michael Zimmelman’s root canal.

It’s bad enough to listen to a game, especially on the radio, and have the people calling the game talk about everything, but the game. ESPN has come up with something even more intrusive….

The KayRod Cast.

That’s Michael Kay and Alex Rodriguez talking baseball while watching the Sunday night game. And the audience gets to watch them watching the game.

Oh, more distractions. Thanks.

“Do people really want to watch something like this?!” I was incredulous! I was livid! Phone calls need to be made! Facebook posts need to be posted! Complaints complained!

Then I realized a remedy was only a station change away.
