dimland radio 11-2-24 show notes

Congratulations to the LA Dodgers on their World Series Championship! What makes it even sweeter is they beat the Hated Yankees!

Got 38 minutes? A way to spend it is to watch this highlights video of the 2024 World Series:

I already miss baseball.

I refuse to believe the race is as close as we are being told.

The 2024 Presidential Election is upon us. My prediction is that Kamala Harris will be our next President. Peerless Loser will declare himself the winner and claim the election is being stolen from him. Again.

Let’s hope the new media, the country, and the courts all say, ” Donald, learn a new song.”

Our hotel in Dublin.
First Guinness in Dublin, the Home of Guinness.
That’s Helena our guide for the walking tour of Dublin.
Record Tower part of Dublin Castle.
Mural honoring Sinead O’Connor.
A Calder sculpture on Trinity College campus.
Cool stairs inside The Long Room at Trinity College.
Inside The Long Room. All the books that were kept in the room were removed sometime ago.
It kinda looks like I’m holding the earth, right?
Those nicks along the edges of the stone are part of an early form of writing. This is in the museum that houses The Book of Kells.
Visitors are not allowed to take pictures of the actual Book of Kells, but there are plenty of pictures of some of the ornate writing in the book.
Outside Dublin’s Christ Church Cathedral is this sculpture of homeless Jesus.Look closely at his bare feet. You can see the scars left be the nail that held his feet to the cross. Allegedly.
Oh, look at what we found!
Enjoying our complimentary pint of Guinness in the Guinness brewery hospitality room.
Outside the window, begging for food, at one of the restaurants inside the Guinness Storehouse.
Oh! Look at what else we found!

Amy and I were pretty damn tired out at this point of the day in our Dublin visit. We also both had colds. We didn’t go into my namesake bar. That is something we regret, but we were really beat.

The Imperial Hotel. Very fancy.
Checking in. Pretty fancy!
Statue outside the Imperial honoring Irish activist Michael Collins.
Our driven Joe who took us across Ireland from Dublin to Galway. Nice bloke.
St. Colman’s Cathedral in Cobh.
Inside St. Colman’s.
Cool gargoyles!
The “Deck of Cards” houses in Cobh.
This statue pays tribute to Annie Moore, the first immigrant to enter the United States at Ellis Island.
The group back in Cork for a walking tour with Fabio. He’s the one in the Lt. Columbo-like raincoat.
Is that a crow or a raven?
A gate with a stylized map of Cork.
Our tootsies in Cork, near Croft’s Alley.
Fabio explaining the English Market in Cork.
Closed for the day.
This pub is just around the corner from The Imperial. It’s called Arthur Mayne’s Pharmacy. It used to be a pharmacy way back when.
Old pharmacy records. And a pint.

The next day, we headed out for and exploration of the Ring of Kerry.

Small house with very small windows at the Kerry Bog Village.
Small doorways, too.
Uh oh! There’s an illicit drinking house! For shame… Let’s go in!
Guinness, of course. A Danish beer? I guess. COORS?! What the…?
I bought something.
A curious attraction: A tribute to Charlie Chaplin.
And there’s Ger! She was our guide for the Ring of Kerry and the Cliffs of Moher. (I’ll get to the Cliffs next week.)

Next week the tales of our trip continues. We’ll continue with the Ring of Kerry, Cliffs of Moher, and so much more. Tune in!
